Celebrity Bowling and Poker Tournament

Stars & Strikes is the brainchild of APCH's Leadership Council and is a celebration of the great work APCH does for youth in South LA.  Not another humdrum fundraiser, this is a celebration for our the kids and our supporters that includes some of the entertainment industry's most engaging celebrities, great food and drinks, bowling, an exciting professional level poker tournament, cool DJs and, an all-star guest list of LA’s finest who make the event the best party in town.

A Place Called Home is a safe haven in South Central Los Angeles where underserved youth are empowered to take ownership of the quality and direction of their lives through programs in education, arts, and well-being; and are inspired to make a meaningful difference in their community and the world. Five core programs work in conjunction with one another to support APCH members in avoiding destructive behaviors by developing life skills and motivation to overcome adversity, make healthy, productive choices, and take advantage of the opportunities that lie before them. APCH’s Educational Services include daily tutoring and homework assistance and an accredited LAUSD Continuation High School dropout recovery program. Our Health, Nutrition & Well-Being program provides nutritious meals, gardening and cooking classes, free mental health services for youth and their families, and free dental examinations and health services through collaborations with local healthcare providers. The program promotes fitness by introducing youth to different modes of movement, including warm-up exercises, yoga, aerobics, running, and organized sports. The third core program area comprises Community Service & Outreach, which is designed to enfranchise parents, family and community members in the agency's mission and operations so that we can all work together to help the community’s children grow and evolve toward fulfilled, productive lives. APCH hosts more than 800 volunteers who donate more than 20,000 hours annually. APCH’s Bridge to the Future program focuses on raising the bar on educational achievement for our teenage members. Mentoring, life skills development, career and college guidance counseling and scholarships help teens transition successfully into adulthood. Finally, digital media, music, dance, and fine arts programs under the broad banner of Creative Expressions help fill an enrichment and creative skills gap that looms large as more and more schools discontinue their arts education programs.
